Description
The Tasmanian Nativehen (Tribonyx mortierii) is a ground dwelling bird found in northern and eastern Tasmania. Adults are approximately 50 cm in length with a grey-brown back, blue-grey breast and white patches on the flanks. They feature yellow bills, red eyes and grey legs.
The bird goes by many nicknames, including water hen, narkie, and most whimsically the turbo chook, so named because it can run extremely fast.
