Description
In the pre-dawn glow one can see a battleship steaming in from the right, ready to launch an attack on an imposing island fortress. Or perhaps I just have an overactive imagination?
I photographed this scene on Mono Lake, a hyper-saline lake located in the eastern desert of California. The rock formations are made from tufa, a calcium carbonate precipitate formed around hot springs. As the lake level has dropped the tufa formations have become visible above the surface.
