A wombat joey at the entrance to its burrow checking if it’s safe to come out.
This joey is from the species of Common Wombats (Vombatus ursinus). As an adult he can expect to grow to approximately 1 metre in length and weigh up to 25 kg. Wombats are herbivores native to south eastern Australia. They favour the cool, moist and mountainous terrain of the alpine areas of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
I am a photographer based in Sydney, Australia. I shoot mostly landscapes but include the occasional urban, flora and fauna shots for good measure. My photographs in these collections were taken in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Iceland and USA. Please note that watermarks do not appear on printed images.
