Artist's Description
A view of stalactite and stalagmite cave formations in the Aranui cave at Waitomo.
Waitomo is located in the Waikato Province of New Zealand's north island. The cave formations are slowly built over thousands as limestone (calcium carbonate), dissolved from the surrounding rock, precipitates out of solution as drips of water seep from the crevices.
