Description
Silhouetted against the dawn sky this tufa formation on Mono Lake reminds me of a battleship, primed for action.
Mono Lake is a hyper-saline lake located in the high altitude desert of eastern California. The rock formations are made from tufa, a calcium carbonate precipitate formed around hot springs. Although originally formed underwater these ones are now visible as the water level has dropped.
