A yellow-crowned night heron (Nyctanassa violacea) making its way through a dark and humid swamp.
The yellow-crowned night heron has a grey-blue body with black stripes, and a large black and white striped head with crown feathers. It lives in swamps, lakes and flooded lowlands around the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, throughout the Caribbean, and along the northern seaboard of South America. Populations can sometimes also be found in the eastern states of USA.
