Description
The Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys) is a small bird found in Australia and New Guinea. Whilst foraging for insects on the ground its large fan like tail swings rapidly from side to side, from where its name derives.
Willie wagtails are largely black overall except for a white breast and belly, and some brown colouring on the extremities of their wings. They inhabit open woodlands and riverbanks, and can often been seen on cattle and sheep farms, searching for insects disturbed by the grazing livestock. Adults grow to about 20 cm in length.
