Description
The Macquarie Watch Tower at La Perouse in Sydney's eastern suburbs was constructed in 1822 as a protection against smuggling. The tower was operated by the Customs Service to prevent untaxed goods from being smuggled into Sydney via Botany Bay.
The tower sits on the La Perouse headland near Bare Island. It is constructed in an octagonal shape using the local sandstone.
