Description
The abandoned Silverton railway station in far western New South Wales.
The Silverton Tramway was a narrow gauge railway, opened in 1888 to service the mines of Broken Hill and Silverton. It provided a connection to Port Pirie more than 500 km distant on the South Australian Coast. The line was later bypassed by a realignment of the Trans-Australian railway and ultimately closed in 1970. The station and a few sections of track have been retained and sometimes feature in television and film productions seeking the classic Australian outback look. It doesn’t disappoint.
