Description
Iconic view of the village of Pennan, Scotland.
Pennan is a small coastal village located in Aberdeenshire, perhaps best known for its starring role as the location of the fictional town of Ferness the 1980s film Local Hero. The village consists of a row of houses and a single street, huddled at the bottom of grass cliffs facing the North Sea.
Locals once made their living through farming and fishing; now tourism is the main drawcard. Film devotees from all over the world make the pilgrimage to this village to stay in the hotel and make a call from what is arguably the world’s most famous telephone box.
