Description
Jackson Square, New Orleans on a summer evening, with St Louis Cathedral providing the backdrop.
Jackson Square is located on the banks of the Mississippi River in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. The statue in the centre of the square celebrates Andrew Jackson, the American hero of the Battle of New Orleans.
St Louis Cathedral (officially Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France) has stood on this spot since the founding of New Orleans in 1718, although the present structure dates from the 1850s.
The square is one of the most gorgeous and historic locations in a city overflowing with them.
