Artist's Description

A stand of fan palms (Licuala ramsayi) graces the rainforest.

Also known as Queensland Fan Palms, these spectacular trees grow up to 20 metres tall and are famed for their almost circular leaves. They are native to the Wet Tropics UNESCO World Heritage Area of far northern Queensland. This area contains the world’s oldest continuously surviving rainforest and is one of the world’s most biologically diverse regions.
