Description
Borgund Stavkyrkje (Stave Church) is located in the Laerdal region of western Norway. The church is believed to date from the 12th or 13th century.
The timber structure is preserved with a mixture of tar and charcoal. The roof is covered with shingles and features dragon head carvings on its gables.
With a single window for lighting, the inside is dark and mysterious. The atmosphere is infused with the resinous scent of ancient pine and tar. Runes have been carved into the doors of the church.
The year is advancing and the surrounding hills are cloaked in their autumnal foliage.
