Description
This cavern has been worn out of the hard volcanic rock by the flow of water over many hundreds of thousands of years. The cavern is illuminated by a shaft of daylight and adorned by a simple fall of water. In the evening the cavern walls are lit by innumerable glow-worms.
This cave is located in Springbrook National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage area of northern New South Wales and southern Queensland. This mountainous region, formed by long-extinct volcanos, is cloaked in warm temperate and subtropical rainforest supporting a wide variety of insects, reptiles and birdlife.
This photograph is also available in colour.
