Description
The Flame Robin (Petroica phoenicea) is a small Australian bird, only distantly related to robins from Europe or North America. The male (shown here) has a dark grey cap, black and white back and wings, and a startlingly bright orange-red breast.
Flame robins inhabit the higher terrain of the south eastern corner of the Australian mainland and the Tasmanian highlands. Adults are approximately 12-14 cm long.
