Description
London Bridge is a limestone arch formation located on the south west coast of Victoria in Port Campbell National Park.
The rugged coastline is battered by heavy swells all year round, creating the most amazing landscape of sheer cliffs, hidden bays, sea stacks, caves and grottos. Geological time seems to be sped up here; the eroding power of the ocean is so strong that many of the formations have changed significantly even in human lifetimes.
This formation is no exception. True to the nursery rhyme the left hand span of the bridge indeed came falling down in 1990, trapping a few unwary people on the far side. Fortunately no one was injured and the trapped people were later rescued by helicopter.
