Description
Cliff face formed by a giant landslide of rock at Katoomba, New South Wales. Katoomba is located approximately 100 km west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains, an UNESCO World Heritage Area.
The landslide that created this sheer rock face in 1931 was a long anticipated event. Fissures in the cliff top had been growing for about two years, and several smaller rock falls had taken place in the preceding months. Several millions of tonnes of rock finally fell during the night of 29 January 1931 creating the sheer cliff face of approximately 200 metres (650 feet) you see here.
