The Great Sand Dunes National Park in southern Colorado lies in the San Luis Valley at the feet of the Sangre De Christo Range. The unique geography of the valley and strong wind patterns have caused sand eroded from surrounding mountains to collect here and form high dunes (up to 230 m tall).
