Description
Looking out to sea from the west coast of Tasmania.
Only a handful of isolated settlements dot the 300 km western coast of Tasmania. The shoreline is rugged and desolate, exposed to the fury of the ocean winds and swell known to mariners as the “roaring forties”. Tree trunks which have been swept downstream by fast flowing mountain rivers have been casually tossed back against the coast by the wild seas.
Sail straight out to sea and the next landfall you will make is on the east coast of Argentina; three oceans and two-thirds of a world away. No wonder this spot is known as the edge of the world.
